I just received a text from Karen. I logged in the internet hoping it’s just a bad joke, but I was saddened to find out that it’s true – 79 66 people were killed at the ULTRA stampede.
Since the early part of this week, I saw people camp out in the sidewalks around ULTRA to be the first ones in line for today’s Wowowee first anniversary show. Yesterday morning, there were so many people that it reached the bottom of the hill near Valle Verde 1 with five people deep. Last night they had to close the streets.
This is a national tragedy. And I’m not referring to the stampede but to the mere fact that people had to camp out for days for an almost non-existent chance of winning the pot and improving their lives.
It seems more and more people lose hope. And so instead of looking for jobs and other means to earn a living, they’d rather wait for the kubrador, place their bets and pray to Hesus Nazareno for a miracle.
