Proving the negative

Something is brewing up here. With less than a month to go before his bid for a record-breaking 6th Tour de France title, Lance Armstrong is filing a case against David Walsh, Pierre Ballester, and their publishers for libel.

Walsh and Ballester are the co-authors of the soon-to-be-released “L.A. Confidential: The Secrets of Lance Armstrong,” a book which accuses the five-time Tour de France champion of using banned performance enhancing drugs.

Lance denies the allegation. According to him, he has never failed a drug test in all his years in the sport.

Technically, the burden of proof should be in the shoulders of these authors, but this is not so in real life. Sadly, in a sport tainted by doping, this rests on the accused.
