I miss the theater.
I watched Morny’s play last night at the Rizal Mini Theater in the Ateneo. This time he acts as the father of the two main characters in a production by a rival organization back in college – Entablado. His craft has matured a lot from the last time I saw him act. It was Chairs, an English play directed by Yanni. This time there is depth in his characterization that wasn’t there when he played Lebret in Cyrano years ago.
He gave me a backstage tour of the old theater: that distinct RMT smell is still there, the backstage pinlights are all dead, and the cyclorama surprisingly has no marks on it. They have a new lights and audio control system installed, but there are fewer par lamps in the house. Morny told me that there are no house par lamps anymore. Each organization has to bring its own set of lamps now. That explains why I don’t see my Fresnels.
Catch Exodo at the Rizal Mini Theater, Ateneo de Manila University, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until the 22nd of February 2003
